Welcome to Architectural Tours

The Sonoran Desert is a place in which ancient civilizations learned to work and live in harmony with the land. That ethos has transcended time as people today explore new ways to blend everyday life with the rhythm of the desert.

These concepts were further embodied in the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright, who was drawn to the austere and sublime beauty of the Valley of the Sun decades ago. It was here at the base of the majestic McDowell Mountains that Wright established his winter residence and a significant architectural treasure in its own right – Taliesin West.

Taliesin West offered Mr. Wright the opportunity to introduce to the world, his concept of organic architecture, where nature is elemental and integral to the design elements of structures. What was once truly controversial and revolutionary in concept, is now recognized as the definition of, and catalyst for, Modern Architecture.

Much like the desert from which he drew inspiration, the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright endures. Many fascinating structures in the Phoenix area were designed and influenced by him. And his legacy thrives in the works of many other architects who built upon his genius and vision.

Architectural Tours invites you on an unforgettable journey back in time when Wright’s genius was in full force. Understand and experience Frank Lloyd Wright’s vision; experience firsthand, by sight and by touch the influence he had not only on the world of architecture and design, but on the entire world.

Testimonials

avatarWe liked EVERYTHING about our Legacy Tour. Our guide (Greg) was personable, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what he does. The bus was clean, cool , and comfortable. And we saw things we never would have seen on our own. If you like Frank Lloyd Wright, then take this tour; you’ll go home happier and wiser.

avatarAs a lover of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture for many years we believe we got lucky on this tour. We had only a day to tour before joining an extend tour of the Grand Canyon and Greg made a great effort to include us on this 4-hour tour. He picked us up at the Cottonwoods Resort so we didn't need to rent a car. Greg is an unusual tour guide combining his experience in the area with real estate, architecture, and history of the area's natural surroundings. His enthusiasm for the subject of the tour made it a memorable experience for us and we highly recommend him for similar tours.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! If it were possible for me to give Greg and Architectural Tours (ATphx.com) a 10-Star I would. Greg is the very knowledgeable owner/operator of ATphx.com.

My husband and I were in AZ for our 3rd Anniversary and decided to splurge on the evening tour with ATphx.com - -combined with evening tour of Taliesin West. Greg was fantastic in crafting a private tour for my husband and me -- he usually needs at least 4 people to do a full tour but in his words - - "No problem. You don't worry. I will make this work for you and your husband. I don't want you to miss out on seeing these treasures". Wow!! Just what I needed to hear. I relaxed and put myself in his capable hands. Greg drove our rental car and whisked us away...with a basket of water and granola bars to keep our empty tummies full and alert. LOVED IT!!!!

Greg has deep roots in Phoenix area, is a self-taugh student of Frank Loyd Wright the man and his design, and has lived/re-conditioned "FLW-esque" homes in Phoenix area. Greg has developed relationships with 6 of 7 owners of FLW homes in the Phoenix are and he will walk you around the structures pointing out and explaining the numerous architecture details -- unique and masterfully innovated by FLW. Unfortunately we were not able to get interior tours of any of the homes (Friday PM - last minute reservations) but it did not diminish the value of the tour.

Greg's ATphx.com is rich with architectual history and important facts about FLW life and how his life influenced his architecture. I have always lover FLW design and now I am so thoroughly wowed by how much of an innovator he truly was.

We combined Greg's Under the Stars Tour with an Evening Tour of Taliesin West. ATphx.com and Taliesin West are not affiliated - so there is a separate/additional fee for entry into Taliesn West. Contact ATphx.com for packages.

The Under the Stars Tour with Greg in combination with the evening tour of the exterior and interior of Taliesin West. -- was truly magical. Check out my review of Taliesin West.

Without question, my FLW Tour(s) were amongst the highlights of our time in Phoenix.
